Week 11: #3 IWU, #22 USF earn shares of MSFA titles

No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan and No. 22 Saint Francis (Ind.) secure shares of the MSFA league titles after wins in Week 11.


 

#3 Indiana Wesleyan 31, Siena Heights 14

With a share of the Mideast League title on the line, No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan left no doubt as the Wildcats scored 31 unanswered to start the game in a 31-14 road win over Siena Heights.

Clayton Mosher and the IWU defense put points on the board early in the first quarter, when Garrett Hathaway got the strip-sack, leading to a Clayton Mosher recovery and TD. Later in the first, Kyle Antoine would run for a 12-yard TD, and Josh Clifton's field goal at the end of the first half gave the Wildcats a 17-0 lead at the break.

Antoine would throw a pair of TD passes in the second half as Indiana Wesleyan continued to pull away, before the Saints got on the board in the fourth quarter with a pair of Elijah Taylor TD passes.

Roosevelt Cage rushed for 153 yards on 27 carries to lead the Wildcat attack, while Levi Tidwell caught four passes for 34 yards and a pair of TDs.

Taylor collected 214 passing yards and two TDs for Siena Heights, with Tendaji Alexander bringing in four catches for 77 yards.

Mosher finished with a team-high seven tackles for the Wildcats, along with a sack and fumble recovery. Jack Howey made 11 tackles to lead the Saints defense, including a tackle for loss.


#22 Saint Francis (Ind.) 27, Saint Xavier 14

 Securing their first-ever Midwest League title, and their MSFA-record 14th championship overall, Saint Francis (Ind.) held visiting Saint Xavier scoreless until the fourth quarter in a 27-14 victory.

Saint Francis would find the end zone on their first two drives, with Joshua Kulka throwing TD passes to Crosley MacEachen and O'Vauntay Vickers for a 14-0 advantage before the end of the first quarter. Kulka would add two more TD passes in the second half, to Ray McCall and Lenny Bennett.

Kulka finished with 312 yards and four TD passes, completing 29 of 43 attempts in the win. Ten different players caught at least one reception on the day, with McCall's five catches for 41 yards leading the way. Drew Wheat collected 58 yards on four catches.

Kyle Quinn led Saint Xavier with 61 receiving yards and a TD on four catches, while rushing for the Cougars' second TD of the day.

Jaydin Evans made eight tackles to lead the Saint Francis defense, while Nate Newcomer finished with six tackles and two interceptions. Zach Norred made a game-high 12 tackles for Saint Xavier. Ryan Fitzgerald registered 11 tackles along with two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.


Marian 76, Judson 6

A defensive effort that held the visitors to less than 150 yards of total offense, as Marian took a dominant 76-6 win over Judson.

All three phases of the game would find the end zone for the Knights, as the defense would grab two pick-sixes in the first half, and Charles Vaden would return a punt 62 yards for a TD late in the second quarter. Offensively, Tristan Polk would throw for three TDs, and the Marian rushing attack would tally five trips to the end zone in the win.

Polk completed 10 of 12 attempts in the win for 176 yards. Keagan La Belle rushed 10 times for 116 yards and two TDs, while Baron Hubler carried the ball six times for 55 yards and two scores. Jake Reichard caught four passes for 76 yards and two TDs.

Grant Alexander, Jr. led the Eagles offensively, making six catches for 98 yards and a TD.

Isaiah Street made six tackles with a half-sack for the Knights, while Logan Carrington and Yassine Falke each had interceptions returned for TDs. Derrian George made six tackles to lead Judson.


 

Concordia 31, Lawrence Tech 10

Lawrence Tech would claim the lead midway through the second quarter, but the Concordia defense would keep the Blue Devils off the scoreboard the rest of the way as the Cardinals end the series with their in-state rivals with a perfect record following a 31-10 home victory.

The Cardinals opened the scoring late in the first quarter, when Jon Jasionowski broke free for a 20-yard TD. Lawrence Tech would even the score on their next possession, driving 80 yards and finishing with an eight-yard TD pass from Ryan Schuster to Buddy Banks-Williams.

Vincent Robison gave the visitors a 10-7 lead with a 29-yard field goal, but the Cardinals reclaimed the lead before the end of the half, 14-10, with a James Carpenter four-yard TD run.

Concordia's defense would pitch the shutout in the second half, as the Cardinals pulled away with a ten-point third quarter.

Colby Kohmescher threw for 97 yards and rushed for another 139 on 14 carries, including a TD run. Schuster collected 184 yards and a TD through the air for the Blue Devils, with Tyler Garrett posting a game-high 67 receiving yards on three catches.

Defensively, Liam Karry finished with 11 tackles for Concordia, while Gabe Whitmore posted eight stops and a forced fumble in the win. Sylvester Jones and Brody Snyder each had 11 tackles for Lawrence Tech, with Snyder grabbing an interception.


Taylor 91, Madonna 28

Finding the end zone a total of 13 times, the Taylor offense set an MSFA record with 91 points, as the Trojans won on the road, 91-28 over Madonna.

Damon Hockett went a perfect 5-for-5 passing in limited time, collecting 119 yards and three TDs through the air. Jake Halderman completed two of three pass attempts for 62 yards and a TD.

Dakohta Sonnichsen tallied 114 yards and two TDs on just two carries, scoring a 65-yard and 49-yard TD runs. Jameson Chesser rushed ten times for 95 yards and a TD, and Kyle Turanchick posted 79 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.

Kicker Lucas Shilts set MSFA records for the most extra points made and attempted, going a perfect 13-for-13 on the day.

The Crusaders had a solid day on offense, posting 409 yards of total offense. Nah'Shon Williams rushed for 158 yards and two TDs on nine attempts setting a new program rushing record. Taurean Singletary caught a game-high six receptions for 55 yards.

Aven Jones led the Trojan defense with 10 tackles and a sack, while Jeremiah Mansfield posted seven stops with three sacks, a forced fumble, and fumble recovery. Jabez Downie led Madonna with six tackles, and Reese Greenfelder made five tackles with a sack and forced fumble.


 

St. Francis (Ill.) 38, Olivet Nazarene 13

 After surrendering touchdowns on the first two drives of the game, St. Francis (Ill.) would overcome an early deficit and cruise to a 38-13 win over Olivet Nazarene to keep their Midwest League title hopes alive.

Christian Dhue-Reid threw a pair of TD passes to put the Tigers up early, including a 94-yard TD pass to Ray Coffey for the 13-0 advantage. The Saints would respond before the end of the first quarter with a pair of Sam Tumilty rushing TDs to take a 15-13 lead.

Tumilty would find the end zone two more times, as the Saints took a 22-13 lead into the half following his third TD, and the St. Francis defense would shut out the Tigers for nearly 50 minutes of game time as the Saints pulled away after the slow start.

Tumilty threw for 145 yards, completing 19 of 30 passes in the win, while rushing for 139 yards and four TDs on 19 carries. Joey Tumilty caught a game-high eight passes for 77 yards.

Dhue-Reid completed 13 of 23 pass attempts for 254 yards and two TDs in his first start of the year. Coffey finished with 106 receiving yards and one TD on three catches.

Nathen Choute made ten tackles with an interception to lead the Saints defense, while Vaisen Viloria registered 11 tackles to top the Tigers defensive unit.


Hanover (Ind.) 31, Defiance 7

The Yellow Jackets would open the scoring with a strip-sack in the end zone, but the offense would struggle throughout the day as Defiance would surrender 31 straight points in a 31-7 loss to Hanover.

Garret Bogart finished the day with 178 passing yards, with Deveon Williams bringing in a game-high seven receptions for 66 yards.

Antonio Rosser led the Yellow Jackets with 15 tackles, including a sack. Dominic Harris tallied seven stops with the fumble recovery for a touchdown in the first quarter.
