IWU, DC, TU claim final Mideast League awards of season

Performances from the top two teams in the Mideast, plus a first-time receipient from the league's newest member make up the final round of MSFA Mideast League Player of the Week honors for 2024.

Offensive Player of the Week
Roosevelt Cage, Indiana Wesleyan
Jr., RB, Burnsville, Minn. (N.D. State College of Science)

  • Rushed for 218 yards on 15 carries in #3 IWU's 58-10 win over Lawrence Tech
  • Recorded four rushing TDs in the win
  • Wins his second MSFA Player of the Week award this season

Defensive Player of the Week
Connor Essick, Defiance
Jr., LB, Indianapolis, Ind. (Anderson [Ind.])

  • Recorded eight tackles in the Yellow Jackets' 23-21 win over rivals Bluffton (Ohio)
  • Grabbed two interceptions and one sack in the win
  • Earns his first career MSFA Player of the Week honor

Special Teams Player of the Week
Lucas Shilts, Taylor
Jr., K/P, Marion, Ind. (Eastbrook HS)

  • Scored eight points in the Trojans' 20-14 win over Concordia
  • Was a perfect 4-for-4 on kicks, converting field goals from 33 and 27 yards
  • Takes his second MSFA Player of the Week honor this year, and the fourth of his career
