Iowa Wesleyan To Remain NAIA Member

MOUNT PLEASANT - After reviewing a possible move to NCAA Division III, Iowa Wesleyan College has announced it will remain a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as well as the Midwest Collegiate Conference and the Mid-States Football Association.

"After researching our options, we've come to the conclusion that the best place for IWC athletics is at the NAIA level," said IWC Athletic Director Mike Hampton. "We are re-committed to the NAIA as well as the Midwest Collegiate Conference and Mid-States Football Association as the homes for Tiger athletics."

Hampton said factors leading to the decision included the school's comfort level with the MCC and MSFA as conference partners, as a number of IWC's long-time rivals being members of both conferences. Another reason for the decision was the possibility of additional travel and budget expenses as a member of NCAA Division III. He also said IWC is committed to the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative, and that the overall research indicated the NAIA is the best fit for the College.

"The NAIA, the Midwest Collegiate Conference and the Mid-States Football Association have been terrific partners with Iowa Wesleyan College," Hampton said. "We are looking forward to continuing and growing with them."
