MSFA Players of the Week
After adding their names to the SAU record books, Chris Overton and Chase Ferger were named Mid-States Football Association Midwest League Players of the Week today. Overton was named Defensive Player of the Week and Ferger took the award for special teams.
Overton, a senior defensive end from Springfield, Ill., tied a school record with four sacks in the Bees' 52-14 win over Lindenwood-Belleville Saturday. It was part of a six-sack performance for St. Ambrose. Overton, now with five sacks over two games, helped SAU limit Lindenwood to 26 yards rushing and 222 yards of total offense.
Ferger, a senior from Rockford, Ill., returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in Saturday's victory. It was the first kickoff return for a score by a Bee since 2011 and helped swing momentum back St. Ambrose. Ferger's return came after the Lynx trimmed the lead to 16-7 and his touchdown was the first of 36 straight points by the Bees. Ferger also caught two passes offensively, one going for a 64-yard touchdown.
SAU (2-0) will put its unbeaten record on the line Saturday against No. 1 Saint Francis (Ind.).
