CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University football opener against University of St. Francis (Ill.) Thursday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago was suspended with 5:55 remaining in the first quarter due to lightning. Saint Xavier led 14-7 and the Fighting Saints were driving when the officials stopped the game due to a lightning strike. Following a nearly 80-minute stoppage, the officials, coaches and game administrators decided to cancel any further play for Thursday night and resume the game on Saturday, September 4, starting at 6 p.m. Admission will be free for the Saturday game.
