Oskaloosa--Three former William Penn football stars are making a living on the turf as they compete in the Arena Football League’s two divisions.

Andy Stokes, most notably known for earning the title of Mr. Irrelevant as the final draft pick in the 2005 National Football League draft, has found a home with the AFL-1 New York Dragons. It is his first year in the league. Stokes was an honorable-mention all-conference pick in 2002 and 2003 and a first-team selection in 2004. He also garnered NAIA Honorable-Mention All-American status in 2004.

Stokes finished his career in the navy blue and gold with 104 receptions, 1,578 receiving yards, and ten touchdowns.

Matt Forbes, who last played at Penn in 2002, is a fifth-year veteran in the AFL and recently signed a contract to play for the AFL-2 Louisville Fire organization. Forbes was a second-team all-conference defensive back in 2002.

Ed Simms, also a rookie in the league, has signed a contract with the AFL-2 Austin Wranglers. Like Stokes, Simms also had connections to the NFL as he had inked a free-agent contract with the NFL Philadelphia Eagles back in 2006.
