(Quincy, Ill.) The Quincy University football team wrapped up their 2007 season with a 16-13 win at home over William Penn University on senior day. The game got off to a fast start with three touchdowns in the first seven-minutes of play. William Penn scored on their first play of the game, a 38-yard touchdown strike from Ryan Van Dalen to Adam Randall. The Hawks answered back on their next drive, going 47-yards on six plays in 2:20. The Hawks ran the ball on their first four plays before Mike Brouse (Elko, Nev./College of the Desert) hit Chris Jenkins (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) for a 25-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt failed for a 7-6 score. William Penn struck quickly again, scoring on their first play of their second drive, giving them two touchdowns on just two plays. This time the Statesmen scored on a 54-yard touchdown run by Mario Whitney. The Statesmen's extra point was blocked, keeping the score at 13-6.

The Hawks defense played a large role in the win, forcing two William Penn turnovers. The first turnover the Hawks recorded came late in the first quarter when Ryan Smith (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) picked off a ball at mid-field and returned it to the William Penn 15-yard line. A personal foul after the play resulted in setting up the Hawks at the Statesmen seven-yard line. The Hawks were forced to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Eric Broughton (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) but were able to close the gap to 13-9.

Quincy forced a three-and-out by the Statesmen, taking over for their first drive of the second-half. The Hawks went 73-yards on nine plays on that drive, using a series of short passes to drive down the field. Brouse was four-of-six on the drive with completions to Lou Finocchio (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary's), Charles Jackson (North Las Vegas, Nev./Feather River) and Mike James (Largo, Ill./Countryside). The Hawks finished the drive with a pair of runs by Corey Williams (Coral Springs, Fla./Independence) with Williams capping the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run. The Hawks added the extra point to take their first lead of the game at 16-13 with 10:46 to go in the third quarter.

William Penn drove 35-yards to the Quincy 26-yard line but was forced to attempt a field goal.
